Privacy Policy

Pause ("we", "our", or "the app") is a voice journaling app built for personal reflection. Your privacy is fundamental to our design. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. This is used solely for authentication.

Journal entries. All journal entries, including text and voice transcriptions, are stored locally on your device in an encrypted SQLite database. Your entries are never uploaded to our servers for storage.

Voice recordings. When you use voice dictation, your audio is temporarily sent to our transcription service (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) to convert speech to text. The audio is processed in real time and is not stored, logged, or retained after transcription is complete.

Device identifier. We generate a random, anonymous device identifier to manage your free trial period. This identifier cannot be used to identify you personally.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect analytics or usage tracking data.
• We do not use advertising SDKs or ad trackers.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.
• We do not read, access, or store your journal entries on any server.
• We do not use your data to train AI models.

3. How We Use Your Data

• Authentication: Your Google account information is used to sign you in and personalise your greeting.
• Transcription: Voice audio is processed in real time to return text. No audio is retained.
• Trial management: Your anonymous device identifier is used to track the 14-day free trial period.
• Subscription: If you subscribe, payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not process or store payment information.

4. Third-Party Services

Pause uses the following third-party services:

• Google Sign-In / Firebase Authentication: For account authentication. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Cloudflare Workers: For voice transcription processing. Audio is processed in memory and not stored. Subject to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat: For subscription management. Subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
• Apple App Store: For payment processing. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your journal entries are stored exclusively on your device in an encrypted local database. We use encryption to protect your data at rest. If you delete the app, your journal data is permanently removed from your device.

Your authentication credentials are managed by Firebase and stored securely using the device's secure storage (Keychain on iOS).

6. Data Export and Deletion

You can export all your journal entries at any time as a PDF using the "Export data" feature in the app. You can delete individual entries or your entire account from within the app. When you delete data, it is permanently removed from your device.

7. Children's Privacy

Pause is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
